When we were little ...

I was born on 4th February at 7 p. m. in Ljubljana. When I was born, my hair was black and long and my eyes were blue. I was a big baby. I was thin. I weighed 3.38 kilograms. I was a happy baby and I didn't cry a lot. My first word was »au« - it meant a dog. My favourite toy was a soft ladybird. I liked fairy – tales very much. I had many picture – books and soft toys. I didn't go to kinder – garten.
When I was a little girl life was good.

I was born in Ljubljana on the 6th of May 2001 at 5 o'clock p.m. I had brown hair and brown eyes. I was a big baby and I cried a lot. I and my sister had a lot of toys. Every evening we listened to audio-stories on the radio. I think our favourite audio-story was  “Greek legends”. Every evening we also ate our dinner in front of the television and watched cartoons. We both liked »Hercules« a lot. Sometimes our cousin visited us and played with us. I often went to my grandma's. She had a dog back then.  I had many friends in kindergarten. I don't remember all of their names but I think my best friends were Katja and Arne.
Lara, 7.b

It all started on the 27th of May in 2001. My birthdy. I was born two months before I should be. That's why I was very small. I didn't cry so much, but I slept a lot. I wasn't naughty, but I wasn't quiet. I was always asking questions. I hated watching TV. But my mum didn't have time for me, so I got used to it.
My first word was ''nujno'', because my mum always sad: ''Nujno pojej kosilo ''. I remember that I really liked one song, called Schnapi. I could listen to it all day long. I was eating a lot. But it's weird because I didn't get fat.
I had a lot of toys. But my favourite was Tana, the panda. She was a soft animal. She has only one eye now, but I don't mind.
I had a really great childhood, well I'm still having it.

Shop till you drop?

Why do I like shopping? Well… because it can be fun, interesting and just amazing!
I don’t like shopping for food, but I love shopping for clothes, shoes, furniture, computers, books and things like that. I usually go shopping to big shopping malls, because I can buy everything I want and need in one spot. I would love to go shopping every single day, but I know that’s impossible. I go shopping when I need clothes, shoes… that’s not very often, so I also go shopping just for fun.
I usually don’t go shopping for food, my mum and dad do that. They go to supermarkets once a week. I don’t go shopping on Sundays or late at night, because I don’t have time. And I’m too lazy. I go shopping with my friends or with my parents. I like it in both cases. I mean, shopping is shopping, right?  Sometimes I also go window shopping with my friends.
I don’t spend my money online. That means, I don’t do online shopping. I believe that shopping is much easier and faster on the internet, but you don’t really know what you’re buying. Maybe the product looks perfect on the photograph, but when you actually get it and try it on, it can be completely different.
What about commercials? Do I like them? No! I hate them! I never read them, I never watch them on TV, I never look at them on the internet… They’re so incredibly annoying and boring. They hide the negative sides of the product, and make the positive ones look so much better, than they really are.
I don’t know why, but shopping is probably more interesting and fun for women.   I don’t understand some people. Come on, how can you hate shopping? There are so many reasons why I love shopping.  I guess it’s one of the things I really like to do, one of my hobbies.

Our family rules

I must get up at 7. I must make my bed every morning. I must put the washing out of the washing machine. I and my sister must do our homework. I must tidy up my room. I can watch TV in the evening. I don't have to go to bed at 8. I can sleep more on Sundays. I must sit up straight at the table. I mustn't bite my nails. I must say »please« when I ask for something and say »thank you« when I am given something. I and my sister must help our parents. I must be polite. I can water the flowers and have a pet. I must feed my pets. I mustn't eat too many sweets. I mustn't go to bed at midnight. I mustn't go to discos and point at people. I must clean the table. I don't have to visit my friends. I must go to shop on Saturdays. I don't have to cook. I and my sister can have a birthday party. I mustn't wear shoes in flat.
I think the rules are important.
Ivana, 7. b

My family rules aren't strict but they're fair.
For example, I don't have to eat everything from my plate or I must go to bed at nine o'clock. I don't have to clean the dishes. I must be polite. I can watch TV. I can't be noisy. I can help my father at his work. I and my sister have got some rules between us too. For example, we don't disturb each other when we do our homework.
I really like my family rules because they're fair and fairly divided.
Leon, 7. a

In our family we have family rules.
I must tidy up my room every weekend and sometimes help with other chores. I must do my homework and study every day. I must get up early in the morning except at the weekends, but I don’t have to make my bed every morning.
At lunch time I must sit politely. I must cover my mouth when I yawn or cough. I don’t have to make lunch, but sometimes I go to shop to buy some food and drink. I must obey my parents. I must always say “please” if I ask for something, or “thank you” if somebody gives me something.
I can invite my friends to our house.
I must go to bed until 9.30 pm, but at the weekends I don’t have to go to bed at this hour. I mustn’t go to bed at midnight or after 10.00 pm.
I think our family rules are O.K.

My ideal school

I get to my ideal school at 10 a.m. At first, we have breakfast in a small colourful restaurant, where we can do our homework, talk and enjoy ourselves. We only have four lessons a day. We have a lot of space around the school. There is a playground for small kids and a big swimming pool. There is a big mountain two kilometres away from school. In winter we can go skateboarding, skiing or just hiking. There is a river and we can go bungee jumping or fishing. We always have P.E. outside. We have an animal room, too. There are tigers, elephants, lions, giraffes, monkeys ... We have biology there. We feed, clean and take care of the animals. History is very interesting because we have a time machine, so we can travel in past. We have meetings with Einstein, Columbus, Mozart and others. We have geography and music at the same time. We travel all around the world and go to concerts of famous singers. There are thousands of students, hundreds of teachers and we all know each other- Teachers are nice and calm. We all have good marks. we don't have homework every day. We learn maths, art, English and other subjects in the computer room. There are bedrooms for students from distant cities and a dining room for students and guests. We all have great time there.
Zala, 9.b

A typical day at my ideal school starts at nine a.m. every day. Every second day classes take place somewhere outside, it depends on a topic and learning material of that day.
The school is modernly designed, therefore it has plenty of windows, space and it combines wood and white concrete as a building material. It is surrounded by a big lawn with a playground, trees and flowers.
Every student has their own part of the lawn to plant seeds of their own choice and learn about gardening as well.
Classes contain about 15 students and mostly use practical work as a learning technique. Teachers are educated on one subject only, what makes them more productive in passing their knowledge to the students.  Every pupil has their own computer to make notes at school but every day's homework is to rewrite and sum up all of them in a notebook just to improve handwriting and repeat what they have done.  lessons usually last until two p.m. unless they are spent outdoors, those can end later.
After school students are welcome to use the school library, cafe, gym and the laboratory to attend afternoon activities or just hang out.
Ava, 9.b

I'm visiting the best school ever. What I am going to tell you is my ideal school.
My school is at the end of the valley, near the waterfall. If you are visiting that school, you have to go through the waterfall. Only students with imagination can visit and see that school. Our day starts at 8 o'clock in the morning. My first lesson is making magic and learning spells. After that we have our second lesson. We usually go to the forest to feed and talk to the animals. Then we have free time so we can do whatever we want to. We ride horses and fly on the brooms, for example. We never have homework because we don't go to ordinary school as other "normal" students. After that we have lunch at school. You can eat whatever is on your mind.
That's why I love my school and I'd never change it. I'm lucky to be that special to visit such an ideal school as mine is.

Our stories

A pirate
Once upon a time there was a pirate who lived in a cave. He always wanted to find a secret treasure that was hidden in a room with the gate that shuts itself. But for that gate he needed a key. He had only a drawing of it. One day, together with his wise friend who had a map to the location of the key, he went treasure hunting. The location of the key was near the mermaid town. But these mermaids were evil and they ate people. He had a gun, so he could kill them. Then they killed all of them and found the key. After a long day of adventures, they both went to sleep in a mermaid nest. Next morning they headed to the mountains to find the gate. After the whole day of hiking, the gate appeared in front of them. Using the key they opened the gate. It was very hard to unlock it because of the rusty lock. They entered the big golden room and turned on their torches. Statues, chalices, swords, and helmets - everything was made of pure gold. They decided to live there and to be the richest men in the world.
Iva, 7.b

The story of a wise man

Once upon a time there lived a wise man that only had a cottage. He was very wise, but also sad, because he was poor.

One day he went outside. He saw a shiny object on the ground and picked it up. He found a ring that makes the one who weares it tell the truth. But only five minutes after he found the ring, a theif stole it from him and ran into the forest. The wise man set a trap for the theif cleverly and waited for him. The wise man caught the theif and got his ring back. On his way home he stared at the ground carefully, because he thought that he could find some more valubale items. And then he found a locked chest with no key. He looked for the key, but he couldn't find it. The next day when he was outside, he heard the wind that whispered him that he should go to the widzard. When the wise man found the widzard, he asked him if he could open the chest. The widzard laughed and opened the chest.
They were both very disappointed. In the chest there was only a note: The treasure is in the mystery, in taking the right path in life and in having a great time. After that day the wise man was happy, because the treasure really is in the mystery, in taking the right path in life and in having a great time.

Magic Island

Once upon a time, on a Magic Island there lived a queen and a king. They had a beautiful daughter, a princess who couldn't laugh. One day a Dragon flew over the island and stole the princess. The queen and the king were very sad. They said: "Who finds the princess, he will be another king, or he will marry her."Every man on the island wanted to marry the princess, but no one could find her.
The king was very desperate. Every man who wanted to find the princess disappeared. On the Island there was a cook. He said to the king: "I will find the princess." The king said: "What? You are just a cook, you can’t find the princess." Cook said angrily: "Yes,I am but I can find the princess."
The cook went to find the princess. He went to the sea. There was his old friend a mermaid. The cook said to her: "Hello, my old friend." The mermaid said happily: "Hello, and what are you doing here?" The cook said: "I am going to find the princess!" The mermaid said: "I saw her yesterday. She flew away on dragon’s wings." The cook said: "Did you see where they were going?" The mermaid said: "Yes, into a cave, but you must have a flying carpet to fly there. I can give it to you." She gave him a flying carpet and he flew away, killed the dragon and saved the princess. She smiled. They married and lived happily ever after.

We went to my grandparents'. At six o'clock we had dinner. We had chicken and potatoes, a fish,... Then we opened our gifts. In the morning we went home. I had very boring Christmas holidays.
Ian, 7. b

Every year we have a special Christmas dinner.  My aunt, uncle and cousins come and everyone makes something to eat.
This Christmas we wanted to make something special. My cousins brought three different kinds of potatoes. It was very interesting and I liked it very much. They also brought steaks and some cake. My parents made  a chicken filled with bread amd my favourite dish - a chicken pie. I made some muffins and orange jelly.
I liked the chicken pie, because it was crunchy on the outside and creamy inside and it was absolutely delicious. Small pieces of chicken, mixed with sour cream and mustard are stuffed into special pie dough. Then it is put into the oven and baked until it is golden brown. After that you are ready to enjoy it.
Next year I will cook something new and interesting again.
